Joby Aviation ($JOBY) continues to lead the electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) sector with significant progress in aircraft testing and regulatory certification. Having completed over 50,000 miles of test flights, Joby is one of the most thoroughly tested developers in the space. The company is actively flying its first FAA-conforming production aircraft, a crucial step toward commercial certification. Strategic partnerships with Delta Air Lines and Virgin Atlantic are positioning Joby to launch airport shuttle services in major cities like New York, Los Angeles, and soon internationally in Dubai, which is expected to be among its first commercial markets.
Despite these advances, Joby’s stock has faced a tough year, down nearly 58% over the past 12 months, reflecting investor concerns about execution and profitability timelines. The company reported a strong Q4 2025 with revenue beating estimates, yet it continues to burn significant cash, with operating losses and cash burn expected to persist through 2026. Insider selling activity has also added to downside pressure. Analysts hold a cautious "hold" rating with a price target around $11, highlighting that meaningful share price recovery hinges on FAA certification progress and the successful launch of paid commercial flights in Dubai later this year.
On the technology front, Joby has chosen a different path from some competitors by developing its own Global Electric Aviation Charging System (GEACS) rather than adopting the industry-backed Combined Charging Standard (CCS). This proprietary system supports simultaneous charging of multiple distributed battery packs and includes a coolant exchange feature to manage battery temperature, reflecting Joby’s focus on safety and operational efficiency. While this means Joby’s charging infrastructure is not compatible with the emerging standardized network led by Archer Aviation and Beta Technologies, it underscores Joby’s commitment to tailored engineering solutions.
Looking ahead, Joby’s ability to convert technological milestones into a scalable, profitable business remains the key challenge. Investors are shifting focus from potential to tangible commercial results as the company prepares to launch services and ramp up production. With a strong cash position of over $1 billion, Joby has the runway to pursue these goals, but the market will be watching closely for signs of sustainable revenue growth and operational execution in the months to come.
Markets will resume tomorrow morning at 9:30 AM ET.

The stock market often reacts more to shifts in investor expectations than to actual company progress, especially for innovative sectors like eVTOL where commercial success depends on proving new technology can become a viable business.
